Season:
5
As:
Amy Pond
Personal: Date of Birth 28th November 1988, Inverness, Scotland, 5′11
An orphan, Amy Pond meets The Doctor in "The Eleventh Hour", the first episode of the 2010 series. Her boyfriend, Rory Williams, is a nurse. In "The Eleventh Hour", she first meets the Doctor as a child. The Doctor promised to return in '5 minutes', but due to an erratic, malfunctioning TARDIS, does not reunite with her until 12 years later (age 19). In the intervening time, she had been to four psychiatrists as a result of her insistence on the reality of the Doctor (and bit all of them). After their reunion, in which Amy helps the Doctor save the earth from the Atraxi, it is 2 years (for Amy, how long for the Doctor is not specified) before the Doctor returns for her, and invites her to travel with him -- totaling 14 years total between their first meeting and her first trip in the TARDIS at age 21.

Season: 4
As: Donna Noble
Personal: Date of Birth 12 May 1968, Bloomsbury, London
On Christmas Eve, the day of her wedding, she is accidentally pulled into the TARDIS as a result of being dosed with Huon particles by her duplicitous fiancé, Lance Bennett, on the orders of the Empress of the Racnoss. She aids the Doctor in defeating the Racnoss Empress, but declines his invitation to travel with him — she is frightened not only by his adventures, but also, to a certain extent, by the Doctor himself. Having seen him commit genocide on the Racnoss, she urges him to find a new companion to act as his moral compass. It was revealed later in "Turn Left" that the Doctor would have been killed while stopping the Racnoss if not for Donna's involvement.

Martha Jones is introduced in the 2007 series of Doctor Who, first appearing in the episode "Smith and Jones". When the hospital she works at is teleported to the Moon, medical student Martha helps save the day alongside an alien time traveller known only as the Doctor (David Tennant). To thank her for her help, the Doctor invites her to join him for a supposed single trip in his time machine the TARDIS, but later accepts her as his full-time "companion", admitting that she was "never just a passenger", and he even gives her the key to the TARDIS.

As: Rose
Personal: 22 September 1982,
Swindon, Wiltshire, UK
Although we later find she had unwittingly met the Tenth Doctor in the final moments before his regeneration, Rose's first true encounter with the Doctor comes in eponymous premiere episode (2005), where she is saved by the mysterious alien Time Lord, the Doctor (Eccleston) from an Auton invasion of Earth and assists him in defeating the Nestene Consciousness. Following this, he offers Rose the option of travelling with him, and takes her to see the end of the world, and also gives her a "superphone" so that she may remain in contact with her mother, Jackie, and boyfriend, Mickey. On their travels through time and space, Rose learns the importance of not tampering with history, when she attempts to save the life of deceased father Pete Tyler (Shaun Dingwall) who died when she was a baby.
