The past fortnight has seen more details emerge about Doctor Who in 2011, with the big news announced by Lead Writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat.
Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, he revealed that Doctor Who will return for seven episodes in Easter, 2011. This run of seven episodes will culminate in a huge 'game changing' cliff-hanger and six more episodes will follow in Autumn.
Steven added, 'It will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!'
But long before the TARDIS returns at Christmas and in 2011, we have the Doctor Who Proms to look forward to. An hour-long broadcast of the first of this year's concerts will be screened on BBC Three on Monday, 6 September. An extended 90 minute version will be on BBC Three on Friday, 10 September. Plus, all that week there'll be extra material available on Red Button and online, right here. It will include exclusive moments from the event and behind the scenes footage featuring monsters, Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill.
It's been confirmed that the BAFTA-winning Sir Michael Gambon and Welsh star Katherine Jenkins are playing major roles in the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas Special.
The adventure will star Matt Smith as the Doctor, alongside Karen Gillan as Amy and Arthur Darvill as Rory. They'll be joined by, amongst others, Michael Gambon, one of the industry's most respected actors who has starred in TV classics such as The Singing Detective and Longitude as well as Academy Award-winning films including Gosford Park and Sleepy Hollow. Recently he has become popular with a new generation, right across the world as Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies.
Katherine Jenkins also stars in the special. She's currently best known as a mezzo-soprano and is one of the world's most successful classical singers. 'I'm over the moon to be involved in the Doctor Who Christmas Special!' Katherine said. 'I can't quite believe it as it's a part of the family tradition at the Jenkins household. I heard the news that I got the role on my 30th birthday and it was the best birthday present ever!'
We'll be bringing you the latest news about the special over the weeks and months ahead.
